August SUMMERS

Augie Summers went peacefully in his sleep to be home with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 9th, 2004. He was born at his family’s home in Freehold, NJ; on May 2nd, 1939. Augie moved out west to California with his mother when he was only 12 years old, after his father passed away in 1952. He had a deep interest in flying and obtained his commercial pilot’s license. Auguie proudly served his country with the California Army National Guard in 1956 and served in the 217 AAA battalion and also the 40th ordinance battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Augie was married to Carol on August 30th, 1958 in Winterhaven, CA; when she was only 16 years old and he was only 19. He later moved to Spokane, Washington and Salina, Kansas, working for General Dynamics as an optical surveyor on the Missle Defense Program, installing missile silos for the Atlas project. In 1962, he worked for Narmco Research in San Diego, CA; and helped in the development and testing of the materials in the “black box’ that is currently used in aircraft to record flight data. In 1964, he worked for Northrop Rockedyne and was involved in the testing of the J2 rocket engines that were eventually used to propel the Saturn V rocket to the moon. Later, he worked for Convair in San Diego, CA; which included inspection for the C5 Military Transport plane cargo doors. In 1975, he moved his family to Alturas, CA; to develop and work a 100 cattle ranch. By 1981, he moved his family to Prescott, AZ. In 1988, he went to work for Sturm, Ruger as a process inspector, inspecting various parts for the manufacture of P-85 pistol parts. August moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ; in 1990, where he managed their apartments along with his wife, Carol.He was a proud member of Lakeview Community Church, the NRA and the Lake Havasu Sportsman Club.Augie is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol Summers; sons Steve R. Summers and wife Amy of Mesa, AZ; John A. Summers and wife Angie of Magnolia, TX; grandchildren, Michael, Stacey, Leah, Nathan, Cody and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Semindinger and mother Claire Montero.A memorial service will be held at Lakeview Community Church on Friday, October 15th, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dale Ray officiating.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory
