Carl DAUS

Don passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at home with his family by his side. Don was born in Buffalo, New York on March 14, 1932 to Gertrude and Carl Daus. They lived there until Don was about 11 and from there they moved to Hollywood, California in1943. The family moved to China Lake, California in 1947 where Don's dad worked for the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake, California. Don attended high school there from his freshman year to his senior year. He met his future wife, Jen, in his senior year. It was love at first date (for Jeri anyway). Don went into the Navy in 1951 for four years. When he was discharged in March of 1955, he and Jeri were married in the Chapel on the Naval Ordnance Test Station on April 16, 1955. They have one son, Michael Lynn Daus.Don learned his trade of scientific glassblowing while working for the Navy at the Naval Ordnance Test Station. From there he moved his family to Pasadena, California to work for Glass Instruments for about three years and then to Whittier, California for about 2 years before being offered a job in Northern California where he eventually bought a home in Richmond, California and lived there for four years before buying a home in Cuppertino, California. From there he and family moved to Colorado Springs and Don set up his own business there called, "DJM' s." After about three years he and family moved to Lake Havasu City in the early 70's. There were only about 10,000 people there then. He moved his business there. The family moved back to the Bay Area in about two years and there they stayed until Don retired and eventually came back to Lake Havasu City in November of 1997 and had a home built here.Don loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish and his latest love was that of the game of golf which he played for many years. He belonged to the London Bridge Golf Course for several years. Don is a Life Member of the Elks Lodge and belonged for 53 years. Also, he was a life member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc., and life member of the North American Fishing Club. Don was also an avid basketball fan, especially of the Suns and never missed a game.Don is survived by his wife Jeri; son Mike Daus; his mother-in-law, Helen Rogers of Lake Havasu City; his brothers-in-law Dick (Mary) Rogers of La Luz, New Mexico, David Rogers (Barbara Anderson) of Wildwood, Florida; his aunt Pat (Roy) Ladd of San Antonio, Texas; his uncles Jack Rogers of Coleville, Washington, Dean Field of Grand Junction, Colorado; his nephews Bob (Gloria) Pitman, of Trona, California, Bill Pitman and Christopher Sutton of Ridgecrest, California; his nieces Laura (Pat) Moriorty of Austin, Texas, Shana Rogers of Portland, Oregon; his cousins Joey Pitman & family, Julia & daughter Emma Pitman of Trona, California, Joanne Brown, Kathleen Foreman, Bonnie (David) O'Connell of Salem, Oregon and many, many friends.The family requests that in lieu of flowers; please send donations to Hospice of Havasu, P.O.
