Glen MARKS

Glen Franklin Marks, 72, of Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away March 13th following a sudden illness. Glen and his wife, Marilyn, moved to the city in 1992 from Pagosa Springs, CO. Glen was born in Caldwell, ID to Ray and Edna Marks on September 7, 1932. Even as a young man, Glen was quite ambitious and energetic. He frequently reminded people that at the age of 8 he worked three jobs to buy a bicycle: he split wood, milked cows, and trapped gophers for a mink farmer. His family settled in Meridian, ID, where they owned a farm. Glen attended Meridian High School and after graduation he hired on as an Installer with Western Electric. Throughout his 34 year career, he worked mostly in Colorado on the Eastern slope. He retired in 1986 as an Operations Area Manager and was responsible for all telecommunications equipment installed in Mountain Bell central offices throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Western Electric was later re-named Lucent Technologies. During that time (1953-1955) he spent two years in the Army as a Sergeant stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. One of the highlights was helping to build a road near the Hearst Castle in California. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. His duty assignment was Inter Special Radio Operator because of his Western Electric training. In 1952 Glen married Joan Samp of Nampa, ID and they had three children. They later divorced and in 1985 he married Marilyn Nation. They lived in Aurora, CO and after retiring they built a home in the mountains of Pagosa Springs, CO. Glen was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to play golf. Throughout the years, he enjoyed many activities with his friends such as snowmobiling in Wyoming, boating trips to Lake Powell and traveling to Mexico. Glen will long be remembered for the greatest gift he had which was being able to fix anything. He had a knack for understanding how things worked and Marilyn often loaned him out, sometimes against his will. Glen was a quiet person around most people because he believed that it was more important to listen, but around people he knew well, he could be very entertaining. Glen had a good heart. He loved his children and grandchildren and was very proud of all they have accomplished in their lives. The last 14 years, he has helped support a family of six that they met while motorhoming in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Every year his pickup would be loaded for the trip down and his cooler stocked with fish and shrimp for the return home. Glen’s life was greatly changed when after a trip to Israel, he accepted Jesus into his life and was baptized into the Catholic Church in April of 2001 while living briefly in Eagle, ID. He was most recently a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu and enjoyed attending services there. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a brother Dale (Jane) Marks of Whidbey Island, WA; sister Dorothy Davis of Boise, ID; sister Ellen (Lawrence) Kent of Homedale, ID; son Steven (Kathy) Marks of The Woodlands, TX; daughter Sandy (Leo) McGowen of Marsing, ID; daughter Sharon (Joe) Konkol of Boise, ID; five grandchildren and his Beagle Sofie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his special dog, Frieda. Services will be in Meridian, ID. There will be a visitation at Accent Funeral Home on Thursday, March 17th, from 4p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be on Friday, March 18th at 1 p.m. at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell, ID, which is the final resting place of his parents and several family members. In lieu of flowers, Glen would be pleased if donations were made to The Matt Relph Foundation, c/o. Zion’s Bank, 300 S. Main, Moab, UT 84532. This is a memorial fund established for his nephew who died tragically at the young age of 16.
